Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 28, 2026

SeeItEarly ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at seeitearly.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Email address: when you subscribe to our weekly digest newsletter.
  • City preference: optionally provided during signup to personalize your digest.
  • Event submissions: if you submit a screening tip via our submission form.

Information collected automatically

  • IP address: used for rate-limiting API requests to prevent abuse. IP addresses used for rate-limiting are retained in memory only during the active session and are not persisted to any database.
  • Usage analytics: we use PostHog, a privacy-focused analytics platform, along with Google Analytics, to understand how visitors use SeeItEarly. These collect page-view and interaction data, and PostHog may also record browsing sessions (how a page was scrolled and clicked) to help us find usability problems; anything you type is masked in those recordings. You can turn analytics off at any time from the cookie preferences banner, which stops all of it.
  • Outbound click data: when you click a "Get Tickets" or "Get Passes" button, we record the click in a click log: the event, its source, the destination site, and the type of page you clicked from (the page's address itself is not kept). With analytics consent, a salted one-way hash of your IP address is stored with it; if you have declined analytics, or arrive through a link where we cannot see your choice (such as an email), we keep only the event, source and destination. Records from before August 28, 2026 were made under our older practice and still hold the IP address itself; we will replace those with hashes, and you can ask us to delete yours before then. These records support our partner and revenue reporting and are retained as business records.

How We Use Your Information

  • To send you the weekly screening digest if you subscribe.
  • To personalize content based on your city preference.
  • To monitor and improve the site's performance and content.
  • To prevent abuse through rate-limiting.

We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not rent or hand over our subscriber list for anyone else's marketing. Advertising is the exception worth stating plainly: serving ads through Mediavine involves what California law calls "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising, and you can opt out of it. See Your California Privacy Rights.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate SeeItEarly. Each is linked to its own privacy policy governing data they process on our behalf:

  • Vercel: website hosting, serverless functions, and first-party analytics (privacy).
  • Turso (libSQL): cloud-hosted SQLite for subscriber, event, and analytics data (privacy).
  • Sentry: error monitoring for our server code. When something breaks on our servers, technical details of the failure (such as the stack trace and request metadata) are sent to Sentry so we can diagnose and fix it. The Sentry SDK does not run in your browser (privacy).
  • PostHog: privacy-focused product analytics (privacy).
  • ConsentManager: the consent management platform Mediavine supplies with its ad service. It records your advertising choices, publishes them to advertisers via the IAB Global Privacy Platform, and renders the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" control (privacy policy).
  • Grow by Mediavine: loaded as part of Mediavine's ad service (privacy policy).
  • Comscore: audience measurement used by our advertising partners (privacy policy).
  • Google Analytics: aggregate audience measurement, used to report visitor and session totals (privacy).
  • Resend: email delivery for confirmation emails, system alerts, screening alerts, and the weekly digest. Resend also processes the delivery and engagement signals described under "Email Communications" below (privacy).
  • Beehiiv: marketing newsletter platform. Subscriber email addresses are synced to Beehiiv for digest delivery, referral programs, and growth analytics. Unsubscribing on either side propagates to the other automatically, normally within moments (privacy).
  • Mediavine: advertising on the site. See the "Advertising (Mediavine)" section below for details (privacy).
  • Google Maps Platform: the interactive venue maps on our city pages (privacy).
  • OpenStreetMap (Nominatim): location search. When you type into a location search box, or share your device location to find nearby events, the text you typed (or your approximate coordinates) is forwarded through our servers to the OpenStreetMap Foundation's Nominatim geocoding service to find matching places. These requests are sent from our servers, so your IP address is not shared with OpenStreetMap (privacy).
  • CARTO: map tiles. When you open the optional map view on a movie's showtimes page, the background map tiles are loaded by your browser directly from CARTO, which serves OpenStreetMap-based imagery. This map view is off by default and loads only when you select it. Because your browser fetches the tiles itself, your IP address is visible to CARTO for those requests (privacy).
  • TMDB (The Movie Database): movie posters, ratings, and metadata. SeeItEarly uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB (privacy).

Cookies & Similar Technologies

SeeItEarly uses the following categories of cookies and similar technologies:

  • Essential: session management, subscription status, a 60-day referral-attribution cookie (sie_ref) set when a visitor arrives via a referral link, a region cookie (sie-region) our server sets from your request's country so the correct consent experience loads, a location cookie (sie-location) holding your approximate area, seeded from your request's IP-derived city on a first visit and replaced by any city or ZIP you search, and a browser local-storage entry (sie-consent) that remembers your cookie-banner choices.
  • Analytics: PostHog product analytics, Vercel Analytics, and Google Analytics collect page-view and interaction data; PostHog session recordings (input masked) are described under "Information We Collect". Google Analytics runs only on seeitearly.com. For EEA, UK, and Swiss visitors these are gated behind the Consent Management Platform described below; for other regions they run by default unless you turn Analytics off in the cookie preferences banner.
  • Advertising: Mediavine and its advertising partners serve advertising on this site and set cookies as described in the "Advertising (Mediavine)" section below.

We do not use cross-site tracking cookies of our own, and we do not sell or share your browsing history with third parties except as described in the advertising section below.

Advertising (Mediavine)

SeeItEarly uses Mediavine (Journey by Mediavine) to serve advertising on this site; it replaced Google AdSense on 2026-08-21. Mediavine works with a rotating set of advertising partners who bid on each ad slot, and those partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, including ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Mediavine's own privacy policy, which lists the partners it works with, is available at mediavine.com/privacy-policy.

To opt out of personalized advertising, use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" control described in the California section below, or the industry-wide opt-out tools below. Our own cookie preferences banner does not control advertising. If you also use Google services elsewhere, personalization can be managed at Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, users can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info.

For visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, SeeItEarly uses Google Funding Choices as its IAB TCF v2.3-certified Consent Management Platform (CMP). Non-essential advertising and analytics cookies are gated behind the CMP banner; the site respects the user's choices for the cookie lifetime and honors Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where legally recognized. You may change your preferences at any time via the consent banner's "Manage options" link. For visitors outside the EEA/UK/CH the Funding Choices banner does not render. A second consent platform, ConsentManager, is supplied by Mediavine and operates in all regions: it records your advertising choices and publishes them to advertisers using the IAB Global Privacy Platform. Outside the EEA/UK/CH, Mediavine and its partners serve personalized or limited ads per your region's default rules, the choices you make in that control, and any GPC signal your browser sends.

Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. SeeItEarly does not sell personal information for money, but the use of advertising cookies by Mediavine and its advertising partners qualifies as "sharing" under CPRA.

To opt out of sharing for advertising: use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" control shown near the bottom of the page. Mediavine, our advertising provider, shows it to readers in the states whose laws provide this right, so it may not appear everywhere. It opens Mediavine's privacy choices. Your decision is recorded as an IAB Global Privacy Platform (GPP) signal, which Mediavine reads before selecting ads. This is the control that actually stops the cross-context sharing described above, so it is the one to use.

Two further routes. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal (via a GPC-enabled browser or extension), our advertising provider honors it in states where the law recognizes GPC. Or email us (below) and we will process your opt-out by hand. If the control described above does not appear for you (a content blocker or a script failure will stop it), email us and we will process the opt-out that way.

For clarity about what the cookie banner does and does not cover: our own cookie preferences banner controls analytics only (PostHog, Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics). Advertising consent is handled by Mediavine's consent manager through the control described above, not by that banner.

We will never discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights: prices (everything here is free), features, and service quality are the same whether or not you opt out. We do not knowingly collect, sell, or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that would require a "Limit the Use of My Sensitive Personal Information" link under the CPRA. How long we keep each category of information is described in the "Data Retention" section below.

To exercise any other right (access, delete, correct, portability): email privacy@seeitearly.com with your request. We will respond within 45 days per CPRA § 1798.130. You may also designate an authorized agent to submit requests on your behalf.

Affiliate Links

Some outbound links on SeeItEarly contain affiliate tracking parameters. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase or sign up for a service, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. These affiliate relationships do not influence which events we display or how we rank them. All events are shown based on availability and relevance, regardless of affiliate status.

Our affiliate programs include ticketing partners (such as Fandango and Ticketmaster) and the Amazon Associates Program: as an Amazon Associate, SeeItEarly earns from qualifying purchases. See our Disclosures page for the full list of programs and how affiliate links are labeled.

Email Communications & CAN-SPAM Compliance

  • Double opt-in. New signups receive a confirmation email and must click the link inside before any marketing email is sent. Unconfirmed addresses are never contacted beyond the one-time confirmation.
  • At signup you choose your delivery preferences: the weekly Thursday digest, instant alerts for your city, or both. You can change these any time on your confirmation page or by replying to any email.
  • Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link and honors the List-Unsubscribe header so Gmail / Apple Mail / Outlook built-in unsubscribe buttons work immediately.
  • Unsubscribe requests are honored immediately on SeeItEarly and propagate to our newsletter platform (Beehiiv) automatically, normally within moments. If you ever receive mail after unsubscribing, tell us and we will fix it directly.
  • We do not use misleading subject lines or false header information. Every email identifies SeeItEarly as the sender and includes our physical mailing address.
  • We record at signup the date, source page, IP address, user agent, and the version of this policy in effect, so we can prove consent if challenged.
  • Delivery and engagement tracking. Our email provider (Resend) reports whether each message was delivered, bounced, or reported as spam. Two optional signals are also measured:
    • Link clicks. Links in our emails are rewritten to route through link.seeitearly.com before redirecting you to the real destination, which lets us see which links were clicked.
    • Opens. A 1x1 transparent image is embedded in each email. Loading it tells us the message was opened. Most email apps let you block remote images, which prevents this. Some apps (notably Apple Mail with Mail Privacy Protection) load it automatically, so open counts are approximate.
We use these only in aggregate and per subscriber to gauge engagement, so we can stop emailing people who never engage. We do not sell them, and they are never used for advertising.

Data Retention

Subscriber data is retained as long as your subscription is active. Within 30 days of a full unsubscribe, however you unsubscribed, we delete the location, attribution and engagement details from your record: city and saved cities, coordinates, how you found us, and open and click history. We keep your email address, the unsubscribe record, and the evidence that you had consented, the minimum needed to make sure we never email you again and can show we had permission while we did. The 30-day window exists so an accidental unsubscribe (they happen, some mail scanners follow links) stays fully reversible. You may request immediate and complete deletion at any time by emailing us.

Outbound click records (described under "Information We Collect") are retained as business records for partner and revenue reporting. New records store at most a one-way hash of your IP address, never the address itself. Records from before August 28, 2026 still hold the address, and we will convert them to the same hashed format. Deletion requests are honored for anything that can be associated with you.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data.
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data.
  • Data portability.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@seeitearly.com.

Children's Privacy

SeeItEarly is a general-audience service intended for users aged 13 and older. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Our Terms of Service require all users to represent that they are at least 13 years old.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, please contact us at hello@seeitearly.com and we will promptly delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of SeeItEarly after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
