STARCRASH is the best STAR WARS knock-off. Why? For one, Italian director Luigi Cozzi was only somewhat interested in ripping-off the George Lucas empire. He also wanted to have giant stop motion monsters and sword-fighting clockwork machines that are more Ray Harryhausen than Industrial Light and Magic. Secondly, for every hundred thousand dollars less they had in budget, they added colored lights, making for an eye-popping universe of swirling lights and colors that resembles a lava lamp more than a Flash Gordon serial.
