Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a rock musical about Hedwig Robinson, a genderqueer East German immigrant who becomes a punk-rock singer, telling her story of identity, love, and betrayal through song as she follows her ex-lover who stole her music. Raised as Hansel in communist East Berlin, Hedwig undergoes a botched sex-change operation to marry an American soldier, only to be abandoned, leading to her journey as a "gender-queer" artist searching for her "other half". The narrative unfolds through high-energy rock performances and musical numbers, exploring themes of love, gender, and finding wholeness.
