A direct continuation of the first three films in the SAW voyage, SAW IV mutates the format to share the origin story of mysterious serial killer Jigsaw, his traps, and Billy, his faithful puppet. This grimy, unforgiving squirm-machine exchanges the Michael Bay-style action of the previous two entries for an overdose of soap opera histrionics. Plus some of the most vomitously beautiful practical gore effects of the Y2K era. SAW IV is another reminder that this franchise was built to be experienced big, loud, and in a theater full of appreciative gorehounds.
