Free Film Events by Category

Screenings are advance movie viewings before a film's wide release — Studio promo screenings, premieres, raffles, and festival entries. Special Events covers everything else: live concert performances of film scores, celebrity Q&As, art exhibits, TV tapings, and other film-adjacent experiences. The split mirrors the homepage tab control — same category boundaries everywhere.

Categories with zero upcoming events are hidden from the index until something gets scheduled. This keeps the page useful — landing on a category card with 0 events would be a dead end. Once events appear in a category, the card auto-rejoins the index. (Admins always see all 9 categories regardless of count.)

Most are — every advance screening passed through Gofobo / 1iota / studio portals is free, and the same goes for raffles + Q&As. Concerts (live film scores at symphony halls) are typically ticketed. Each event listing shows whether it's free or paid; you can also filter by the FREE pill on the homepage.

Subscribe at /alerts to get city-specific email alerts when new screenings drop. We don't currently offer per-category subscription — but city alerts cover all categories within your area. Per-movie watch alerts (Notify me when X gets a screening) are available on individual movie pages.

Click any category card to land on /categories/[category-slug] — those pages show the full chronological list of upcoming events for that bucket, with city + venue + free/paid filters.
