MISHIMA: A LIFE IN FOUR CHAPTERS is presented as part of our Boots Riley Guest Selects for his new film, I LOVE BOOSTERS . To me, this is Paul Schrader's best work, and what's interesting to me about me liking it in the first place is that it's a movie about a right-wing Japanese writer who, in real life, decided that poetry wasn't enough and that writing wasn't enough… He says something in there about the unity of pen and sword, and that idea is something that resonated with me. There are too many artists who are just using being an artist as an excuse to, I don’t know, fart in public. Nothing wrong with farting in public, but I want a little bit more than that.
