It’s nearly impossible to remake one of the most influential independent horror films of all time. So they didn’t. Using the basic beats of Sam Raimi’s THE EVIL DEAD (1981) to construct something entirely new, EVIL DEAD (2013) is best described as the movie version of a black metal album. Directed by Fede Alvarez (ALIEN: ROMULUS) and featuring a gut-wrenchingly powerful lead role from Jane Levy, this is an ultra-gory bazooka blast of physical carnage and emotional turmoil. This movie was unjustly dismissed when it was released in 2013. It’s time to remedy that. Screening an archival 35mm print of the theatrical cut.
